Corporate Structure

The Canadian Council on Ecological Areas is structured to encourage collaboration among its many partners and collaborators. The Board of Directors is the managing and decision-making authority that oversees and coordinates CCEA activities. The Board seeks advice and assistance of representatives of the jurisdictions, environmental non-governmental (ENGO) organizations, academic institutions as well as a diverse range of Associates. These advisory bodies are also encouraged to participate and lead various activities of Council.

Jurisdictions also contribute by preparing annual reports that document progress made towards establishing protected areas, identifying issues of concern. These reports aid Council in setting priorities and creating summary reports. As well, jurisdictions advise Council on emerging issues and ways and means that they can benefit from and contribute towards Council's vision. Such input is highly valued by Council and its Associates, as it enables CCEA to identify, develop and complete projects that best respond to the priority needs of Canadian jurisdictions.

Associates consist of individuals whose skill and experience can contribute to well-rounded discussion on protected ecological areas issues. These people have been past board members, or representatives of key agencies not currently represented on the Executive Board, jurisdictional or ENGO panels.

Financial Resources

CCEA finances its business activities through a variety of innovative and cost-effective funding and resourcing strategies. Over the years CCEA has received substantial financial support from the agencies of its Board of Directors and jurisdictions. Contributions of funds and in-kind support from jurisdictions are generally earmarked to sustain the core program activities of the Council, as these services directly support the priority needs of this client group. In addition, much in-kind support from its collaborators and partners has enabled CCEA to accomplish its goals. CCEA acknowledges with thanks this generous support as an endorsement of its unique program and valued services. CCEA will continue to seek stable multi-year support for its core activities in order to maintain a solid foundation for the future. Also see Donations.
